Open to the Spirit: Tradition and Continuity at Holy Spirit Monastery |
|
This lavishly illustrated book tells the story of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in words and images, beginning with its foundation on a Georgia plantation in 1944 and taking us to its continued vitality as a center of contemplation and hospitality in suburban Atlanta in the twenty-first century (the monks didn't move; the suburbs grew up around them!). Historian and long-standing friend of the Monastery Dewey Kramer tells the story of this sacred community from archives and interviews with the monks and the many people whose lives they touched, while a generous collection of both black and white and color photographs (from the 1940s to the present) make the book shine. The picture of Brother Mark on page 57 is alone worth the price of the book! This will be treasured by anyone who knows and loves the Trappist monks of Conyers.
